2025 Spruce Flats Bog HikeJoin us on Sunday, July 6 (weather permitting), for a tour of the amazing Spruce Flats Bog area followed by a 2.5 mile hike. We will meet at 10:00 am in the Foundation parking lot and carpool or caravan to Laurel Summit State Park. We will first take a short walk to the boardwalk that leads into the bog and look at some of the plants and animals that thrive there. Then we'll take a moderate, mostly flat 2 - 2.5 mile hike around the bog. If you like, you can picnic in the park, where there are tables and restrooms. On your way back, you may want to detour to nearby Ligonier for some ice cream or window shopping. The Social & Rec committee will provide trail snacks. Wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes or boots and bring a full water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, and trekking poles if you like. Please sign up at https://www.hvftoday.com/index.php/events/event-calendar, so we know how many hikers to expect. |

Saturday with Neighbors-Quecreek Mine RescueMr. John Urosek will present information about the Quecreek Mine Rescue which happened on July 24, 2002. At the time, Mr. Urosek was a mining engineer and ventilation specialist with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. His input, experience and knowledge of mining along with several individuals, devised a plan to save the miners. All the miners were rescued and the experience of what was learned in this miracle rescue has been used in other trapped miners around the world. He will present information on the events of those days and how the experience has been used for the future rescues. |
