Bocce BallBocce, a sport similar to lawn bowling, was first offered at Hidden Valley last summer. It was so successful, that a second bocce court will soon be added next to our existing court at the South Ridge Center.
No expensive gear is needed for bocce. All that is needed is a set of bocce balls, which is available for sign-out at the SRC.
A game of bocce can be played with 2, 4, 6, or 8 players. The rules of the game are easy to learn. Beginners can enjoy the game after just 10 or 15 minutes of instruction or by watching a game. There are a variety of strategies in bocce to keep the game interesting and fun.

Wine TastingTo our Wine Tasting Guests:
Wine Tasting is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, 7 PM, at the South Ridge Center pool and conference room. By fire code, the conference room is limited to 50 people and over 100 Members and guests will attend wine tasting. We will coordinate with Maintenance and have the pool furniture available for outdoor seating, which we must take advantage of to seat 100 Members and guests. PLEASE DRESS ACCORDINGLY. In the event of rain, the date will move one week to September 18th. Given the large number of attendees and the costs, we are charging $10/person for this event. In addition, to your sampling, we will provide a HVF wine glass and individually- packaged snacks. Live music by Heavenly Biscuits from 7:00 to 10:00 PM.
We have purchased 20 different wines from the Somerset State Store for this year’s tasting. The average cost per bottle for this tasting is just under $11/bottle. Reds are from Chile, France, Italy, Spain and USA. The Rose and whites are from France and Italy.
The 17 red wines that range light body to bolder. The Red-light bodies are a blend (Spain), Pinot Noir (USA), Valpolicella (Italy) and Santa Cristina Rosso Toscana (Italy). The mediums are blends and a Malbec (Chile). The bolder are a Petit Sirah (USA), Domaine de Fabregues (France), Zinfandel (USA); two Cabernet Sauvignons (Chile and USA) and a Bordeaux (France).
If you’re new to wine, the Rose and whites are the “lightest” in taste. All are fruity, but not overly sweet. The “lightest” red is Campo Viejo Red Blend (Spain). Another choice is Santa Cristina Rosso Toscana (Italy). The Pinot Noir (USA), Valpolicella (Italy), and Chianti (Italy) are lighter Reds.
At this event, you will have a list and description of each wine to include the variety, cost and national origin. You will have pre-poured individual wine servings available for each of the wines.
Finally, and most importantly, wine tasting is a HVF-sponsored event on HVF property. HVF requires our participants to have a signed activity release on file. If you do not have a form on file, please download the form from the HVF website and bring the completed form to the HVF office or to the event.
Thank you.
